Ten years ago, I decided to learn everything I could about color because I knew it was the type of business I wanted to start and own. I hired various image consultants to do color analyses for me and to my surprise, “my colors” turned out to be the ones I had intuitively been drawn to and chosen to wear in kindergarten and elementary school, not the colors I had been wearing as an adult.
I am an only child, and clothes were who I hung out with when I was bored. My closet has always been my oasis. My sanctuary. Exploring my wardrobe was a fun and creative outlet for me when I was alone. Even as a very young girl, I was always cleaning and organizing it, displaying my items in various ways that were appealing to me.
The fabrics hanging inside were some of my closest companions. My prized possessions. It was a place where I loved to play and spend afternoons on the weekends when I wasn’t spending time with my friends.
The full-circle moment of reconnecting with my earliest colors not only brought me back to who I was as a young girl, it brought me back to who I was meant to be. Who I am now. It showed me that my journey toward creating MyTwinkleColors had started in childhood – I just wasn’t aware of it at the time.
My Journey
From FinTech to FashTech
After spending twenty-five plus years working in the global e-commerce and financial technology professions, I transitioned to the fashion and beauty industries, in my way, after falling in love with them so long ago. Being able to blend three essential elements of my life – my childhood passion for fashion, my creative college education, and my extensive career experience in enterprise technology – allowed me to finally put the pieces of my life puzzle together, live authentically, walk my own path, and live my true purpose.
My approach to finding people’s best-suited colors works because I apply balance, harmony, and contrast to outfits and makeup – aspects I learned while studying interior design in college.
Similar to how interior designers conceive and beautify buildings and homes to achieve a certain aesthetic, I see color analysis as “designing” an individual’s appearance and persona. Putting outfits and color compilations together is like construction to me; I simply take residential and commercial architectural concepts and align them for fashion and beauty, building “looks” and “wardrobes” in combinations and hues that complement people in ways they may have never recognized before.
An Homage to My Heritage
The Mountain State is a creative’s haven. All 55 counties twinkle in color, whether it’s during warm and rosy autumns, lush, green summers, bright winters, or soft, pastel springs. Color transforms our state in the same way that color can transform your life.
I was born, raised, and educated in Morgantown, West Virginia. Appalachian roots grow deep, and after living elsewhere for 22 years, their strength and significance pulled me back home.
West Virginia is known mostly for its natural resources, so to bring artificial intelligence (AI) and data science to my home state means a great deal to me. I never thought I could find a way to work in the fashion industry without being a designer, publisher, or retailer, but I have through my proprietary technology. I’m so proud that I’ve been able to launch my long-time dream company here in West Virginia – a place that is very sacred to me.
When I’m not helping others learn, recognize, and reveal their Twinkle Colors, I can be found spending time near the water or being in nature surrounded by trees, flowers, mountains, and stars.
